Overview
Mechanical Design Engineer
We are seeking a technically skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of automotive components and products. The candidate will be responsible for creating 3D models and 2D drawings, developing product designs, preparing BOMs, supporting design validation, and coordinating with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and other engineering teams. Modern automotive design roles commonly emphasize CAD modelling, drawing development, BOM management, DFM/DFA, design reviews, and cross-functional product development.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for automotive applications.
- Create and modify 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings.
- Prepare detailed component drawings, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
- Study engineering requirements, product specifications, and customer requirements.
- Perform design calculations, feasibility studies, and tolerance analysis.
- Apply GD&T, DFM, and DFA principles to develop production-ready designs.
- Coordinate with manufacturing, quality, tooling, purchase, and supplier teams.
- Participate in design reviews and identify potential design improvements.
- Support prototype development, testing, validation, and product improvement activities.
- Analyze design-related quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Manage engineering changes, drawing revisions, and design documentation.
- Support cost reduction and design optimization initiatives.
- Ensure designs comply with technical specifications and manufacturing requirements.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and project records.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong mechanical design and product development knowledge.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA, SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD.
- Good understanding of 3D modelling and 2D drafting.
- Knowledge of GD&T, fits, tolerances, and engineering drawings.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.
- Knowledge of DFM/DFA and design validation principles.
- Basic understanding of DFMEA and engineering change processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Strong attention to detail and design accuracy.
Requirements
- B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering.
- Relevant experience in mechanical/product design will be preferred.
- Experience in automotive components/products or automobile manufacturing will be an advantage.
- Hands-on experience with relevant CAD software.
- Good understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of BOM, product development, and design documentation.
- Ability to work with manufacturing, quality, supplier, and engineering teams.
